SPD4459 The Little White Shoes: "Man Mo Temple" in Hollywood Road

SPD4459 The Little White Shoes!

My grandpa upheld a "First writing ceremony" for me when I was young. With a Writing Brush, Scallion and Celery, implicating to be clever and hard-working, which is so-called a blessing.

In the following, I would like to introduce the historical "Man Mo Temple" in Hollywood Road, Central.

Man Mo Temple was built mainly for the worship of Man Cheong (God of Literature) and Mo Tai (God of Martial Arts).

Man Mo Temple is the Department of monuments in Hong Kong. In 1908, it was officially entrusted to Tung Wah Hospital with the enactment of the Man Mo Temple Ordinance. Up till now, the Directors of the Tung Wah Group of Hospitals still congregate in the Temple every year at the Autumn Sacrificial Rites in order to pay homage to Man Cheong and Mo Tai as well as to pray for Hong Kong.

With the long-establishing of Man Mo Temple, many of the foreigners were being attracted on account of its reputation to pay a visit.

The temple is decorated with ceramic figurines, granite carvings, wood carvings, plaster mouldings and murals, reflecting superb traditional craftsmanship. Also, it has an imperative historical and social values to the area nearby, reflecting the traditional social organisation and religious practices of the Chinese community in old Hong Kong.
