I believe you all know Western Market is a kind of shopping mall. However, how many of you know the history about it?

At present, the Western Market is the oldest market building surviving in Hong Kong which completed in 1906. The building was originally the old Western Market (North Block), which was identified by Antiquities and Monuments Offices (AMO) as one of the Declared Monuments in 1990.

The building is in Edwardian style that was popular in England from 1901 to 1918.

Combination use of red bricks and granite band on a granite base and the 'bandaged' brick work to the corner towers gives a polychromatic effect.

In response to the local climate and availability of material, a steep roof is used covered with Chinese pan and roll tiles. The roof displays the combination of oriental features into the early Western style of building in Hong Kong.

The little white shoes is going to introduce the present Western Market you all! Stay tuned!

"Stone Slabs Street",the street you might ever seen on the music MV, TV program or Hong Kong films even though you may not go there ever. But why "Stone Slabs Street" being a famous place for filming? It is no doubt because of special characteristic and historic.

Porttinger Street, is a street in Centralwhich is one of grade I historic buildings in Hong Kong. The street was originally on the slope between Queen's Road Central and Hollywood Road. It is also better known as the Stone Slabs Street (石板街) by the locals, after the granite stone steps which are a rarity nowadays in Hong Kong. The street was named after Henry Pottinger, the first Governor of Hong Kong.

The Burger Shop
Nowadays, there are many small stalls which is selling Table boutique, festival supplies, oil painting and clay model etc. the both sides of the street. Moreover, you may find some restaurants and Bars as well. Besides, there are many fashion flagship store  such as Zara, Topshop, Abecrombie & Fitch nearby the street. thurs, it is highly recommend you can visit there!

SPD4459- The little white shoes

The Central Market

The bazaar was established in 1842 on Queen's Road Central between Cochrane Street and Graham Street. In 1843 it was also known as the Middle Bazaar The market was then replaced by residential houses for Europeans. The bazaar was moved to Queensway, where the present-day High Court stands. In the 1850s, it was moved to its current location on Des Voeux Road (then known as The Praya). Its name also changed to Central Market.

Some organizations have been requested the Government to safeguard the markets classified as historical artifacts, but the government replied that: Archive pictures of each part of the whole building has already been counted save it (How ridiculous it is to have such reply)

Duddell Street

Historic buildings Level: Monuments
Year built: 1875-1889

It was built in granite stone, and there are still have four remaining gas street lamps in Hong Kong on the stone steps , which lit every night at 6:00 on time, help in decorating the stone stairs with lightings, made people feel warm and cozy! The street lighting provider is still the Hong Kong and China gas Company offered to continue operating.
